A practical guide

Reuse the words already in the PDF.

  1. Choose a PDF with selectable text, not a scan of printed pages.
  2. Extract the text and review page breaks and reading order.
  3. Copy or download the TXT result and compare important values with the PDF.

Try this example

Extract text from a searchable two-page application guide and check that its field labels and instructions appear in the TXT result in a usable order.

Before

  • Selectable PDF text

After

  • Plain text .txt
Input and expected output for this task. Illustrative example.

Before you start: This reads embedded selectable text; scanned pages need OCR, and columns may not follow their visual order.

What you get

Extract embedded text into a TXT file. Scanned pages need OCR; source reading order may differ from the visible layout.

Limits and important details

Maximum 10 MiB input, 200 pages and 4 MiB text output. Scanned documents without a text layer report an error instead of a fake successful extraction. Reading order, columns and fonts may not match visual layout. This is not OCR or PDF-to-Word.

Example

Extract text from a searchable report, review it in the result field and copy or download it. Original PDFs remain available after the text result.
