Split Odd and Even Pages

Separate a household PDF into odd and even pages so each side of a double-sided printout can be handled on its own.

Six pages are labeled Sample 1 - Page 1 to 6. The ZIP should contain odd-pages.pdf with pages 1, 3, 5 and even-pages.pdf with pages 2, 4, 6.

A practical guide

Handle each side of the printout separately.

  1. Choose one PDF; positions count from its first page.
  2. Split it: positions 1, 3, 5 go to odd-pages.pdf and 2, 4, 6 to even-pages.pdf.
  3. Unpack the ZIP and check the first and last page of each file.

Try this example

Split a six-page school form into odd-pages.pdf with pages 1, 3, 5 and even-pages.pdf with pages 2, 4, 6. Print the odd file, turn the stack over, then print the even file.

Before you start: Positions count from the first page, not printed page labels. A one-page PDF gives only odd-pages.pdf. Merge Odd and Even PDF Pages combines the two files again.

Separate a PDF into odd-pages.pdf and even-pages.pdf in a ZIP, for example to print or rescan each side. A one-page PDF gives only odd-pages.pdf.

Limits and important details

Bookmark mode: 10 MiB input, 200 pages, 40 chapters, 200 outline items, depth 8, 40 MiB output. Local destinations only; top-level starts must be distinct and increasing. Nested bookmarks must stay within their chapter and are remapped; bookmark styles/open state and document metadata are not preserved. Forms, links, annotations, encryption and cross-chapter outlines are unsupported. Other modes: 200 files, 500 output pages, 60 MiB, no guaranteed bookmark/form preservation. Saving invalidates signatures. ZIP is not PDF input.

Example

Split the six-page sample: odd-pages.pdf holds pages 1, 3, 5 and even-pages.pdf holds pages 2, 4, 6. A one-page PDF produces only odd-pages.pdf.
