Rename PDF by Content

Rename scanned household PDFs, such as bills, by the reference number printed in them instead of scan001.pdf.

Two scans named scan001.pdf and scan002.pdf with Invoice No: INV-2041 and INV-2042. Use the label Invoice No: to get INV-2041.pdf and INV-2042.pdf.

A practical guide

Meaningful names without retyping.

  1. Choose up to 50 PDFs with selectable text.
  2. Enter the label printed before the value, such as Invoice No: or Policy number.
  3. Rename them and check rename-map.csv; files without the label keep their name.

Try this example

Rename twelve utility bills by the text after Account number, so each file shows its account.

Before you start: The label is searched in the first 3 pages. The value ends at a line break or a wide gap. File contents are unchanged; duplicate names get a number.

Merge the renamed files
What you get

Rename several PDFs by the value that follows a label in their text, such as an invoice number. Files keep their contents; a CSV lists every rename.

Limits and important details

Up to 50 PDFs, 10 MB each. The label is searched in the text of the first 3 pages; files without it keep their name.
